It is recommended that children with a family history of eye diseases should be examined about 3 months. Some special conditions need a detailed eye examination even earlier- such as low-birthweight and premature babies. Children without a family history of eye disease should undergo a comprehensive eye examination including assessment of visual function and eye development before 2 years of age.
